Shakka is a British singer-songwriter and producer from Notting Hill, London, born in 1989. He is of Dominican parentage and grows up in Grove, with music forming an early part of his life through his father, who is a guitarist and producer in the reggae band The Foreigners Crew. As a child, he plays keys and sings with the band.

Education and early work

He studies music production and theory, classical piano, percussion and vocals at the Centre for Young Musicians. He also works closely with fellow rapper Incisive.

Releases and musical style

Shakka releases his first EP, Foolishness Vol.1, and later The Shakka Crown Affair, a concept mixtape inspired by The Thomas Crown Affair. On that release he works across hip-hop, jazz, indie rock and electronic music, and his work is associated with hip-hop, funk and G-funk.

Other projects

He also presents the Shakkapella video series, in which he covers popular songs in a beatbox-based style. Alongside this, he promotes his mixtape and other songs through live shows around the UK, including dates in Loughborough, Lincoln and Brighton.
