Serum is the performing name of Mark Gaunt, a London drum and bass producer and DJ. He works in drum and bass, and his music draws on both vintage jungle and modern jump-up styles.
Career
Serum begins his career after being spotted by producer Ray Keith and signing exclusively to Dread. He spends four years releasing singles and EPs on that label, and also remixes tracks including “Sing Time”, “Girls Dem Want it” and “Dub Dread”, the last of which becomes the title track for a series of mix albums on Dread.
After leaving Dread, he continues to release singles, remixes and club tracks across labels including Liquid V, Grid, Mac 2 and Critical. Tracks such as “Snake Fist” and “Papa Lover Remix” spend several weeks in the Radio 1 drum and bass chart. His remixes for Top Cat and Twisted Individual also help build his profile, and his productions receive regular support from DJs including Andy C, Friction, Bryan G, Fabio, Shy FX, Dillinja, Ray Keith and Marky.
Performance and radio work
Serum plays widely across Europe and appears at UK venues including Matter, Ministry of Sound, Fabric, Herbal and the Q Club.
