Sean Paul is a Jamaican dancehall singer and rapper from Kingston, Jamaica. He is also associated with reggae, hip hop, rap, R&B, dance-pop, electropop, pop and ragga.

Career

Sean Paul Ryan Francis Henriques is active as a recording artist from the late 1990s and releases his first album, Stage One, in 2000. He gains wider international attention with Dutty Rock in 2002, followed by The Trinity in 2005. His later studio albums include Imperial Blaze (2009), Tomahawk Technique (2012), Full Frequency (2014), Live n Livin (2021) and Scorcha (2022).

Singles and collaborations

His singles Get Busy and Temperature both reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. He also appears on a number of major singles by other artists, including Beyoncé's Baby Boy, Blu Cantrell's Breathe, The Saturdays' What About Us, Clean Bandit's Rockabye, Sia's Cheap Thrills and DJ Snake's Fuego.

Recognition

Several of his albums receive Grammy nominations for Best Reggae Album, and Dutty Rock wins the award.

Alias

He is sometimes known by the nickname Chanderpaul, a name linked to the similarity between his own names and those of cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul; it also develops from the way people pronounce his name as Chan-der-paul, which he later uses in performances and recordings.

Cheap Thrills, Rockabye and his own No Lie each pass 1 billion views on YouTube, with Rockabye going beyond 2.7 billion views.
