Seal is an English-born singer, songwriter and record producer from Paddington, United Kingdom. Born in 1963, he works across pop, pop rock, pop soul, dance-pop, downtempo and baroque pop.

Career

Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel signs to Trevor Horn’s ZTT Records and releases his self-titled debut album in 1991. The record is a critical and commercial success and includes the singles “Crazy” and “Killer”, which reach number two and number one on the UK singles chart respectively. Both songs also enter the US Billboard Hot 100.

His 1994 single “Kiss from a Rose” reaches number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 after appearing on the soundtracks to The NeverEnding Story III and Batman Forever. It appears on his second self-titled album, Seal (1994), which also reaches number one on the UK Albums Chart.

He continues with the albums Human Being (1998), Seal IV (2003), System (2007), Soul (2008), Seal 6: Commitment (2010), Soul 2 (2011), 7 (2015) and Standards (2017). These releases receive critical acclaim.

Awards and television work

Seal receives three Brit Awards, four Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award. As a songwriter, he wins two Ivor Novello Awards for “Best Song Musically and Lyrically” for “Killer” and “Crazy”. He also serves as a coach on The Voice Australia in 2012, 2013 and 2017.
