Sasha

Sasha is the stage name of Alexander Paul Coe, a DJ and record producer from Bangor, United Kingdom. Born in 1969, he works in electronic music and is associated with breakbeat, breaks, electro house, progressive house and progressive trance.

Career

He is known for his long-running partnership with John Digweed as Sasha & John Digweed, also credited as Sasha + Digweed. Together they release mix albums including the Northern Exposure series, which runs from 1996 to 2001, and The Renaissance Mix Collection Part 1, which becomes one of the best-selling mix albums. Sasha also releases solo Global Underground mix CDs including San Francisco and Ibiza, both regarded as important progressive house records.

In 2002, he releases his first solo album, Airdrawndagger. It is made with Charlie May and Junkie XL, and includes a guest appearance from James Holden. In 2004 he releases Involver, his third Global Underground mix album. Unlike his earlier mix albums, it is built in the studio with each track reworked rather than simply blended.

From 2005, he moves away from using records and CDs for mixing in favour of software-based live performance. He uses Ableton Live with a custom controller that he helps design, allowing techniques such as mixing many sources at once, independent control of pitch and tempo, and cutting and rearranging songs. Fundacion, his mixed CD recorded with this setup, takes its name from his monthly residency nights in New York and Los Angeles. He also releases Late Night Tales Presents Sasha: Scene Delete.

His recordings are issued on labels including Last Night on Earth and Excession.
