Sarge

Sarge are an indie rock band from Champaign, Illinois, in the United States. They are active from 1996 to 2000 and are led by singer and songwriter Elizabeth Elmore.

Career

The band forms in 1996 and releases three albums on Mud Records. Their debut album, Charcoal, leads to touring in the United States, and the single “Dear Josie, Love Robyn” receives media attention. Their 1998 release, The Glass Intact, is an emotional punk rock-style record that attracts further coverage, including a review at Salon.com and a place on Spin magazine’s top twenty list for that year. The album sells nearly 20,000 copies.

Later work

Sarge split up in 2000. Elizabeth Elmore says the split is not her choice. Bassist Rachel Switzky plays bass on and off in different bands, and drummer Chad Romanski later works with Elmore by playing drums on the debut release by The Reputation. Elmore also gathers rare and unreleased material for the third and final Sarge album, Distant.
