Sara Lowes

Sara Lowes is a musician and writer based in Manchester, in the United Kingdom. She is born in County Durham and later moves with her family to Buckinghamshire and South Wales before settling in Lancashire in 1989. She starts writing and recording her own material after art college, working with Gareth Cousins before joining The Earlies in 2003.

Solo releases

Lowes releases her debut mini album, Tomorrow's Laughter, on Red Deer Club Records in 2008 after several years of session work. She later completes her second solo record, Back To Creation, and releases it as a self-released album in the UK in 2011. Her later album The Joy of Waiting is co-produced by band member Nicky Madden and herself, and mixed by Gareth Cousins.

Collaborations and touring

She performs and records with a number of other artists, including Jim Noir, The Earlies, King Creosote and Micah P. Hinson. She records vocals for Micah P. Hinson’s The Gospel Of Progress, produced by The Earlies, and also releases a 7-inch collaboration with The Earlies and The Webb Brothers, which includes the track “I've been Waiting” and her B-side writing contribution “Thomas Danger Hatton”.

Lowes supports Tindersticks on their European tour for The Hungry Saw after they hear her on BBC 6 Music. She also tours and works with other artists and bands, including backing King Creosote with The Earlies, singing on Windmill’s debut Puddle City Racing Lights, joining Half Cousin for Iodine, and later performing with Jesca Hoop, Said The Whale, Jens Lekman, and Marina and the Diamonds. She also supports Coldplay on their Europe and America tours.

Band work and live credits

After joining The Earlies, Lowes contributes to the band’s live activity and later returns to work with them several times. She plays keys for David Potts and Jim Noir in 2006, then joins Half Cousin in 2007 as a live keys player and backing vocalist. She also re-joins The Earlies in 2011 to back King Creosote and to perform as part of the live backing band for Daniel Johnston.

Recording background

Her work sits in indie pop and singer-songwriter territory, with piano and vocals as central elements. She develops her career through collaborative recording, live keys work and backing vocals before and alongside her solo releases.
