Sam Sure and Giacomo
Sam Sure and Giacomo are a hip hop group from Kent in south east England. They form a duo built around Sam’s lyrics and Giacomo’s beat production, with a style that combines melodic composition and storytelling. Their lyrics reflect Sam’s life in England, while Giacomo’s production is described as drawing on the sound of classic American hip hop.
Release history
The group releases an eight-track EP, The Fresh Air EP, in 2003. It is their debut release.
Sound and performance
They start with a straightforward hip hop approach and later play a more eclectic live set that includes a drummer and a guitar and vocal performer. Their newer material remains hip hop-influenced but also takes in folk, jazz and electronic music.
Musical approach
The duo’s work avoids the moodier, ego-driven style associated with some hip hop acts, and instead focuses on balanced rhyming, narrative writing and tight production. The partnership between the two is presented as a natural one, with Sam’s verse style and Giacomo’s beat-making fitting closely together.
