Sad Café

Sad Café are a British rock group from Manchester, formed in 1976 from the remains of earlier bands Mandala and Gyro. The founding line-up includes Paul Young on vocals, Ian Wilson on guitar, Vic Emerson on keyboards, Ashley Mulford on lead guitar, John Stimpson on bass and Tony Cresswell on drums. The group later includes Lenni on saxophone, Jeff Seopardi on drum programming, Phil Lanzon and Steve Piggot on keyboards, and Paul Burgess on drums.

Career

Sad Café are best known for the single "Every Day Hurts", which reaches number 3 in the UK Singles Chart in 1979. Ashley Mulford leaves the group in 1981, Vic Emerson leaves in 1984, and Tony Cresswell leaves in 1978. The band splits in 1989.

Later activity

In 1985, Paul Young also begins singing with Mike & The Mechanics. After Young’s death on 15 July 2000, members of Sad Café reunite to play at a tribute concert.
