Ruckus Collective
Ruckus Collective is a US experimental group based in Baltimore, Maryland, active since 2000. The line-up includes Avey Tare, Deakin, Geologist, Panda Bear, Dave Portner and Brian Weitz. The group works across avant-folk, avant-garde, avant-garde pop, electronic, experimental and freak folk.
Background and style
The band first appears in various forms from October 2006, then begins to build momentum in early 2008. Its sound draws on funk, jazz, rock, hip-hop, ska, reggae and ambient electronica, and is described as difficult to categorise because of its mix of genres. It is also compared with acts such as Ozomatli and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Recording and performance
Ruckus Collective earns a reputation as a live band with an energetic stage presence and a strong focus on dance-driven performance. Recording for Stop, Drop, Dance! takes place in June 2008 and marks a key point for the six members, following a period of extensive live activity. The album is intended to capture the group’s live potential and its combination of edgy creativity and dancefloor impact.
