Roopa Panesar is a sitar player from the UK Indian music scene. She begins training at the age of seven under Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, a sitar maestro and educationalist, and becomes known for her classical playing style and emotional sound.
Alongside performance, she teaches the sitar and takes part in projects aimed at encouraging and educating the next generation of Indian classical musicians. Her work stays rooted in the Indian classical tradition, but she also collaborates with musicians from jazz and Western classical music, including Laura Wright, Dirk Brosse and Manvir Singh.
She releases a first solo album, Khoj, after a sell-out UK tour. Her music reaches audiences in India and the USA as well as in the UK.
