Rohey

Rohey is a Norwegian quartet working across jazz, soul, neo soul and future soul. The group centres on lead singer Rohey Taalah, whose vocals bring a classic jazz and soul sensibility, alongside Ivan Blomqvist on keys, Kristian B. Jacobsen on bass and Henrik Lødøen on drums.

Style and sound

The band combines jazz, soul and funk elements with a rhythm section built for flexible, intricate interplay. Blomqvist’s keyboard work combines old-school sounds with a more retro-futurist, urban tone, while the bass and drums provide a hybrid jazz-soul-funk foundation. The music is described through its energy, directness and emotional clarity, with a strong emphasis on live performance and groove.

Career

Rohey tour extensively across Scandinavia and appear at many of the region’s major jazz festivals. Their profile rises with the release of A Million Things on Jazzland Recordings in 2017. The single’s impact is reflected in a nomination for Best Single at the Scandinavian Soul Awards in 2015.
