Roberto is a South African DJ and producer working in techno, house and electronica, with an emphasis on Detroit-influenced groove. He starts DJing in January 2000, using savings to buy his first turntables at the age of 16, and later turns towards production after several years developing his skills.

Style and development

Roberto begins with a broad interest in electronica before moving more firmly into house and techno. He cites the influence of producers including Steve Rachmad, Samuel L Session and Robert Hood, and his DJ approach spans techno to deep house.

Kai-Zen promotions

In 2009 he starts Kai-Zen promotions in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, creating an outlet for techno nights in an area that he feels is not otherwise served by that kind of event. The project becomes a successful platform for his own studio work, and its later expansion into London gives him further opportunities to test new material. He remains closely involved with the club brand.

Releases and support

His music appears on Artform, Outland and Affin Records. His Logical Progression EP on Artform receives support from Ben Klock, Jonas Kopp, Samuli Kempi, Laurent Garnier, Slam, Edit Select, DVS1, Echologist, Terry Francis, Timo Mass and Pig & Dan. Earlier releases also receive support from Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Shlomi Aber, Stephan Bodzin, Joachim Spieth, Samuel L Session and Steve Rachmad.

Performances and reputation

Roberto plays alongside artists including Cesar Merveille, Robert Dietz, Jamie Anderson, Julian Chaptel and Kyle Hall in cities including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Oxford, Ghent and Nottingham. His work is also compared with that of Robert Hood and Jeff Mills.
