Robert Ellis
Robert Ellis is an alt-country, folk and americana singer-songwriter and guitarist from Lake Jackson, Texas, and is based in Nashville, Tennessee. Born in 1988, he works as a solo artist and also as part of the group Traveller.
Solo work
Ellis releases his debut solo album, The Great Rearranger, in 2009. The record draws on pastoral folk, railroad blues and front porch country, and his rough-hewn vocals and tightly written songs receive positive attention. The Houston Chronicle places it at number seven in its list of top Houston records of 2009.
Other projects and roles
Alongside his solo work, Ellis plays in several other bands and collaborations. He performs with The Lovely Sparrows, Robert Ellis and the Boys, and Houston’s I Am Mesmer. He also plays drums for singer-songwriter Chase Hamblin and bass in the blues group Grandfather Child.
Style and influences
His work is associated with folk and country traditions, with songs that move between acoustic storytelling and blues-influenced material. His musical influences include Doc Watson, Gillian Welch and Richard Joiner.
