Rival Sons
Rival Sons are a rock band from Long Beach, United States, active from 2008. Their sound sits within blues rock, hard rock and rock, and they are also associated with classic rock and blues.
Formation and lineup
The band forms from Scott Holiday’s earlier group The Black Summer Crush, which includes vocalist Thomas Flowers of Oleander, drummer Michael Miley and bassist Robin Everhart. Rival Sons takes shape when Jay Buchanan is persuaded to sing rock and roll material and re-record Before The Fire. The group’s line-up includes Jay Buchanan, Scott Holiday, Michael Miley and bassist Dave Beste, who joins after Robin Everhart leaves in August 2013.
Releases and label history
Rival Sons sign to Earache Records and release their fifth studio album, Hollow Bones. Their recorded output also includes Head Down, which receives notice for its comparison to a blend of Led Zeppelin, Free, Bad Company, Deep Purple and The Doors.
Style
The band’s music is described as an electrifying mix of hard-edged classic rock influences, drawing especially on 1970s blues-based rock traditions.
