Riff Raff

Riff Raff is a rock band from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The group’s material is listed under rock, and the name has also been used by several other artists and bands in different countries and genres.

Background

The Dubai group sits alongside a number of unrelated acts called Riff Raff, including a UK progressive rock band formed in 1972, a US rock band that releases the album Vinyl Futures in 1981, a Finnish hard rock and heavy metal band active from 1979 to 1984, a UK punk band formed in 1977, and a Southern California rock band. The name is also used by an American rapper from Texas, Horst Christian Simco, who performs as RiFF RAFF.

Other acts using the name

The UK progressive rock band is formed by keyboardist Tommy Eyre and grows out of earlier sessions associated with drummers Rod Coombes and Joe Czarnecki, later releasing two albums and the single “Copper Kettle”. The US rock band features Doug Lubahn, Ned Liben, Werner Fritzsching and Mark Kaufman, and its album Vinyl Futures is noted for a Hipgnosis sleeve design. The Finnish band includes Kaija Koo on backing vocals. The UK punk line-up includes Billy Bragg on vocals and guitar.
