Richard Butler is an American songwriter and singer, best known as the frontman of The Psychedelic Furs. The band forms in 1977 and Butler leads it for many years, becoming closely associated with its new wave and alternative sound.

The Psychedelic Furs

Butler fronts The Psychedelic Furs through their original run and later reunion. The band is inactive for much of the 1990s, then reforms in 2001. During that period, Butler works with another project, Love Spit Love, and sometimes that group also includes Psychedelic Furs bassist Tim Butler. When The Psychedelic Furs return, Butler brings in Love Spit Love guitarist Richard Fortus.

Solo work

Butler releases his self-titled debut solo album, Richard Butler, in 2006. The record shows a less harsh vocal approach than his work with his bands and is noted for a more spacious, emotional style. It stands as his only solo album in the available information and represents a distinct statement of his own musical direction.
