Rhiannon Giddens is an American musician from Greensboro, United States. Born in 1977, she works across americana, bluegrass, blues, contemporary folk, country and country blues.

Career and groups

She is known as a lead singer, violinist and banjo player, and is a founding member of the Grammy-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, a band associated with country, blues and old-time music. She also performs with Sankofa Strings, and is associated with Our Native Daughters, The New Basement Tapes, The Giddens Sisters and Nashville Cast.

Musicianship and other work

Giddens is also a voice coach, multi-instrumentalist, dance caller and graphic artist. Her work ranges from torch songs and self-accompanied banjo performances to opera, and she has also performed material linked to Native American powwows, Appalachian ballads and hip-hop.
