Rahaan
Rahaan is a US DJ and producer from Chicago, known for disco and house sets rooted in the city’s club and party culture. He begins playing at Chicago house parties in the 1980s, after dancing there with friends, and later builds a reputation on the city’s underground circuit as a disco and house DJ.
Chicago background
Rahaan starts out playing music from cassette tapes with a dance crew called the Chuck Brothers. He then moves to Wisconsin, where he develops a large collection of disco and house records, before returning to Chicago in 1996 and reconnecting with his old friends to revive the Chuck Brothers.
During the 1990s he plays at the club The Spot and at loft parties with Mr. Bill, Pee Wee and others. He then takes guest spots at Sisterz of Vision and Soul In The Hole club nights and later holds a residency at Budda Lounge.
Production and releases
In 2000 Rahaan begins producing tracks for his own collection, which leads to interest from Fourplay Records. His early major releases on that label include “Coming Hard” and “No Time for Love”. He also releases Rahaan Edits Vol. 1 and Rahaan Edits Vol. 2 on Stillove4music and issues remixes on KAT Records.
He later puts out numerous mixes on websites including Deep House and Bring The Heat, which helps spread his name beyond Chicago.
Performances and collaborations
Rahaan performs internationally in Japan, Australia, Amsterdam, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, England and elsewhere in the United States. His live appearances include Southport Weekender, Northern Soul and Bring The Heat events.
In addition to his own work, he produces soulful disco and house music for Australian singer Christine Eva and Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Ozara Ode’.
