Radiokijada
Radiokijada is a collaboration between Rodolfo Muñoz and Christoph H. Müller, formed after the two meet in Paris in the early 1990s. The project focuses on Afro-Peruvian rural traditional music, presenting it in a contemporary context while drawing on older musical traditions.
Background
Rodolfo Muñoz comes from Peru and is a composer and percussionist trained in Lima and at the Conservatory of Havana. Christoph H. Müller is also part of Gotan Project, the trio known for combining electronica, western beats and tango.
Music and instrumentation
The work uses a range of Peruvian instruments, including the cajita, described as a church money box, and the quijada, the lower jawbone of a donkey adapted as a percussion instrument by African slaves in Peru. The project is framed as a meeting point between ancestral traditions and the digital world.
Related appearances
Radiokijada’s music appears in film and television, including Shall We Dance?, as well as series such as Sex and the City and Top Gear.
