Rachel Dadd

Rachel Dadd is a contemporary folk multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who lives part of the time in Japan and part of the time as a travelling musician. Her work is shaped by observing how other people create, and by connections with other cultures and landscapes. She is described as an artist who pushes the boundaries of folk.

Career and collaborations

She has twice headlined tours around the UK, has toured across Europe, and tours in Japan most years from 2008 onwards. She regularly performs with long-time friends and collaborators This Is The Kit and Rozi Plain, and also with David Thomas Broughton, Francois and the Atlas Mountains, and Alessi’s Ark.

Work in Japan

In Japan, Dadd writes for artists including UA and Gontiti. She also performs there, including at Tokyo’s NHK Hall, where she appears before an audience of 4,000.

Curating and other projects

She co-curates Bristol’s Shhh Festival, a celebration of quiet and diverse music. She also initiates the group exhibition DIY Is All You Need with fellow musicians and artists, and curates and hosts Rachel Dadd and Friends at Kings Place in London.
