Quintron & Miss Pussycat

Quintron & Miss Pussycat is a New Orleans- and Memphis-associated group made up of Quintron and Miss Pussycat. The act performs a blend of electronic music, dance rhythms and performance art built around self-made instruments, puppetry and theatrical live shows.

Quintron

Quintron makes genre-crossing noise and “Swamp-Tech” dance music in New Orleans. His work spans ten full-length albums and combines psychedelic soul, New Orleans garage R&B, a distorted Hammond B-3 and a range of electronic instruments he builds himself. He also releases soundscapes made from inner-city field recordings, including frogs and neighbourhood ambience. His best-known invention is the DRUM BUDDY, a light-activated analogue synthesiser that produces low-fidelity rhythmic patterns. The instrument is used by performers including Nels Cline of Wilco, Laurie Anderson and Mr. Dibbs.

Miss Pussycat

Miss Pussycat, also known as Panacea Theriac, is a New Orleans-based puppeteer. She is born in Antlers, Oklahoma, and learns puppetry through the Christian Puppet Youth Ministry at the First Baptist Church of Antlers. She begins her professional career in New Orleans and helps found the night club Pussycat Caverns. She also serves as president of Rhinestone Records and produces vinyl LPs for her puppets’ bands.

Work together

For fifteen years, the pair tour internationally with puppet shows in rock clubs and at festivals. Miss Pussycat makes three full-length puppet films: North Pole Nutrias, Electric Swamp and Trixie and The Treetrunks, the last of which is commissioned by Vice magazine. Their shows combine electronic music, small explosions, costumes and puppet stories, and they perform at venues as varied as clubs, pizza restaurants and university lecture halls. They also run the Spellcaster Lodge, a secret club in New Orleans.
