Pteroglyph
Pteroglyph is the solo project of UK musician Jimmy MacGregor, also described as a collective of his musical and artistic work. MacGregor previously plays with Mishkin and, before starting Pteroglyph, spends more than eight years working with a series of respected bands and building up touring and studio experience. He then begins Pteroglyph as a new project in which he handles the writing and construction of the material himself.
Releases
Pteroglyph releases a debut EP titled Found. One track from that record is selected for the covermount CD of Metal Hammer in January 2013, which helps raise the project’s profile and audience. The project then follows it with The Great Unseen, an EP issued through Red Tower Records.
Sound and style
The music is described as progressive metal with technical and layered structures, fast fretwork and a heavy sound. The material is also associated with progressive, math metal and progressive death metal, and is said to move between expansive soundscapes and more aggressive passages. The Great Unseen consists of three merged tracks running for more than fifteen minutes.
