Prometheus

Prometheus is the trance project of Benji Vaughan, a producer associated with Twisted Records. He works within psytrance and psychedelic trance, and is linked with artists such as Tristan and Hallucinogen in the international trance scene. Under the Prometheus name, and also through Younger Brother with Simon Posford, he performs at venues and festivals in countries including Greece, Japan, Finland, Denmark, Mexico and the USA.

Background and releases

Vaughan has made trance music under different names since the early 1990s. His releases appear under several labels, including Twisted, Dragonfly and TIP Records. As Prometheus, he is associated with early tracks such as Clarity from Deep Fog with Process and later material including Number Cruncher and Snakes & Ladders. His solo trance work includes tracks such as Samothraki, Mekong Delta, O.K. Computer, Universe and U.R. Beautiful.

Other projects and production work

Outside trance, he broadens into other forms of dance music. He records as Contraband for Backroom Beats and JUNK, and he is part of the house project JUNK with Joe Williams from The Light and PFN. He also does remix work for EMI and Jive Records, and produces an album for The Egg. With Raja Ram, he records as Cyberbaba’s on TIP Records.

Awards and performances

Vaughan wins several awards, including a Sony award for a soundtrack made for a Nike advertisement. His sets at the Samothraki dance festival in Greece are noted as highlights, and he also performs in Finland and Japan, where he plays to large audiences in Osaka and Tokyo.

Other acts using the name

The name Prometheus is also used by several other bands and projects, including a gothic progressive death metal band from Stockholm with the release Visionaire Extreme; a London progressive black metal band with the demo Hanged In Judgement and the EP Of Embers In Darkness; a progressive rock band formed by Steve Ball and Sanford Ponder with a single album; and a dark ambient/drone project formed by members of ARBE with the debut release Landscapes for Nightmares.
