Projector
Projector is the name used by two different bands: one is a three-piece alt rock and indie act from Brighton in the UK, and the other is a Mexican trip-hop group from Guadalajara.
Brighton, UK band
The Brighton Projector line-up features Edward Ensbury on guitar and vocals, Lucy Sheehan on bass and vocals, and Callum Marinho on drums. Marinho replaces Demelza Mather in late 2019. The band sits between alt rock, indie rock and grunge, with a sound described through references to 1980s darkwave, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Pixies and Joy Division. Their music is also tagged with trip-hop and alt rock.
Projector are signed to Roadkill Records, which issues their last two singles. Their releases include the digital singles Love, which is later reissued with Dreaming as a double A-side, Just The Once/Germs, Break Your Own Heart, I Am Shamed, Full Circle, Go Ahead and Superstar. They also release the vinyl single How Does It Feel?
Guadalajara trip-hop project
The other Projector is a Mexican trip-hop band based in Guadalajara. Their music combines trip-hop rhythms with traditional Mexican sounds, as well as salsa, boleros and mariachi. They are influenced by Portishead and Daughter Darling, and follow in the line of San Pascualito Rey and La Barranca. Their lyrics and samples include urban sounds and fragments of old Mexican films, creating a melancholic and bittersweet atmosphere.
