Prateek Kuhad is an Indian singer-songwriter from Jaipur, India. He is associated with indie folk, acoustic music and indie pop, and he starts learning the guitar in 2005.
Education and early development
He goes to New York University, where he studies mathematics and economics, but he turns increasingly towards singing and begins performing as a solo artist. The move towards solo work becomes part of his early identity as a songwriter and performer.
Recording career
His EP Raat Raazi appears in 2013 and helps establish him in the Indian independent music scene. The release is written entirely in Hindi and is noted for its intricate and detailed guitar work. His songs combine restrained folk arrangements with pop-rock melodies and focus on everyday emotional experience.
He later releases his debut album In Tokens & Charms. He also often sings for Pagal Hai Na Records.
Live performances
Kuhad performs at venues in New York, Prague, New Orleans and India. He appears at festivals including Bacardi NH7 Weekender in 2012 and 2013, and Ziro Festival in 2014.
Other work
He also plays rhythm guitar, lead guitar and lead vocals for the Jaipur-based band Freep Monera.
