Powell

Powell is a French electro artist associated with techno, beats, electronic music, instrumental work and industrial techno. The name is used by more than one act, including London-based producer Oscar Powell, whose music takes a stripped-down and primitivist approach to techno, and a beatmaker, producer and drummer from Paris who appears on Beatnicks Vol.2, released on UpMyAlley in early 2008.

Another Powell project comes from musicians from Le Mans, France, and draws on a shared energy shaped by the indie rock scene, with references including Fugazi, Engine Down, Portobello Bones and Karate. This version of Powell combines subdued atmospheres with explosive passages, aiming for a rough, minimal sound. Its texts are used to support and describe that world, presenting scenes like snapshots and precise moments.

The London-based Powell is linked with Diagonal Records, while the Paris-based artist has information and sound samples associated with UpMyAlley and a Myspace page devoted to Powell beats.
