Port Erin

Port Erin is a three-piece band formed in the West Country in January 2007. The group tours extensively in the UK and appears at festivals including Glastonbury, where it performs in 2010, 2011 and 2013. It also records live sessions for BBC Introducing and supports acts including Red Snapper, Nick Harper, Paul Heaton of The Beautiful South, and The Redwalls from the United States.

Releases and recordings

During its early years, Port Erin releases The Weight Of This EP in 2007, The Deads EP in 2008, and the debut album I’ll Be On The Common in 2009. These recordings receive airplay on BBC Introducing shows across the UK and draw positive reviews. The band’s second album, Wheel Inside A Wheel, is recorded and co-produced with Marco Migliari in The Wood Room at Real World Studios. The album is launched in October 2012 at Sound Knowledge record store in Marlborough, Wiltshire, and is followed by further UK touring. Tracks from the album receive airplay on BBC Introducing In The West and BBC 6 Music.

Later work

In May 2013, Port Erin records the EP Threee, again with Marco Migliari at Real World Studios. It is released and launched at the band’s Glastonbury Festival 2013 performance at The Avalon Cafe in the Field of Avalon. The band also records more than 60 hours of improvised music, from which 17 songs are selected as the basis for a third album.

Style and influences

Port Erin’s music is described as unconstrained by genre or style, with influences including Talking Heads, XTC, Syd Arthur, Talk Talk, Cowtown and Elbow. Descriptions of the band’s sound mention precision rock, space and dynamics, liquid guitar, strong bass and detailed drumming, as well as alt-folk elements, accomplished songwriting and laid-back summery grooves.
