Popes of Chillitown

Popes of Chillitown are a London-based six-piece group active since 2009. Their sound draws on dub, punk, reggae and ska, and they combine these styles with elements of 2-tone, drum and bass and upbeat ska. They are known for energetic live performances and are often compared with acts including Capdown, King Prawn, Skindred, The Beat, The Police and Jamie T.

Releases

The band releases music independently. Their debut album, A Word To The Wise, is pledge-funded and self-released in 2013. In 2015 they release their second album, To The Moon, which is self-produced and self-released and features a more aggressive sound than their earlier work.

Live work and touring

After the debut album, Popes of Chillitown tour across the UK and Europe, playing headline shows, festivals and support slots. They support artists including Reel Big Fish, The Selecter, The Skints, Imperial Leisure, Spunge, Mouthwash, The Snare and others. In 2016 they tour the UK with US ska groups Voodoo Glow Skulls and The Slackers.
