Pollyanna
Pollyanna is an Australian indie rock band from Sydney, active from 1994 to 2002. It forms in 1993 under the name Blue Trike, with Matt Handley on lead vocals and lead guitar and Maryke “Rayke” Stapleton on bass guitar and vocals. Over time, the line-up includes Serge Luca, Matt Handley, Matthew Handley, Ace Moley, Andy Strachan, Shaun Lohoar and Glenn Maynard.
Background
The band originally comes from Sydney and later relocates to Melbourne in 1997. Its sound is described through the alternative and indie rock scene, and it is identified as an Australian alternative rock band.
Releases
Pollyanna records through Bark Records, the indie label associated with Mushroom Records. Its releases include the albums Longplayer, Junior Rock, Hello Halo, Delta City Skies and Didn't Feel A Thing. The band also issues a series of singles and EPs including Fordgreensilverrocket, Junior, Lemonsuck, Piston, Keep Me Guessing, Potomac, Effervescence, Peachy Keen, Brittle Then Broken, Hermit Inertia, Feeding Circle and Rebound Girl.
Notable songs and later activity
Among the band’s better-known singles are Lemonsuck, Effervesscene, Keep Me Guessing and Brittle Then Broken. In 2001, the band plays many gigs with Bluebottle Kiss. Afterward, Matt Handley releases a solo album titled Won't Get Over You in 2005.
