Polio

Polio is a name used by several different bands and projects across punk, hardcore, noise rock, post-hardcore and grindcore.

Peter Wright laptop project

One version of Polio is a laptop-based offshoot of Peter Wright’s solo drone work, active between 2000 and 2003. It begins as a one-off recording for the US label Freedom From, then grows into a project that issues four albums in total. The project centres on digitally reworking unused and rejected Peter Wright recordings, with occasional live overdubs added to the material.

Southampton math rock band

Another Polio is a heavy math rock band from Southampton, formed in 2011.

Noise rock release

A separate Polio is a noise rock band that releases a record called Picnic in 1995.

North County San Diego grindcore band

Polio is also the name of an experimental grindcore and powerviolence band from North County San Diego. This group is active in the Southern California punk and grind scene from 2023 to 2025, and releases one full-length album alongside multiple EPs.
