Planet of Zeus
Planet of Zeus are a Greek rock band from Athens, formed in 2000. Their sound combines stoner rock, heavy metal and southern rock elements, and they are also described as a stoner metal and hard rock act.
Formation and early line-up
The band begins when Babis and Yog decide that they cannot express themselves in the groups they have played with before. Two years later, the project becomes a trio with J.V. on bass. At the start, the line-up centres on Babis, Yog and J.V., and the group builds a reputation through energetic live shows in Athens and elsewhere in Greece.
Recordings and releases
In summer 2004, the band records its first demo, Loop 430. Another recording follows about a year later. Two of the group’s songs appear on the first two Spinalonga Records compilations, In the Junkyard vol. 1 and In the Junkyard vol. 2. Recording for the debut album begins in July 2006, resulting in Eleven the Hard Way. In 2011, the band releases its second album, Macho Libre.
Membership changes
At the beginning of 2007, the line-up changes again: Yog moves to guitar and Serapheim G. replaces him on drums.
Live reputation
Planet of Zeus are known for high-energy live performances and for playing with several Greek bands in Athens and across Greece.
