Pist

Pist are a Swedish group associated with metal and stoner rock. The name has also been used by other acts, but the group described here is the Swedish band.

Style and background

The band works in stoner rock, with heavy, groovy riff-based songs. Their material is described as direct and energetic, built around jammed-together ideas and a strong emphasis on riffs.

Members

The line-up includes drummer Andy Hunt, who also plays in Molly Bloom, singer Dave Rowlands, guitarist John Nicholson, and bassist Michael Collins, who also plays in Wort. Hunt and Rowlands have played together for over a decade before the group takes shape, and the four members regularly jam together.

Releases and recordings

The group’s early release is the five-track EP Riffology. It is recorded in one weekend at Skyhammer Studios with producer Chris Fielding, whose credits include Conan, Winterfylleth, Electric Wizard and Napalm Death. The EP is released on Gareth Kelly’s When Planets Collide label, after Kelly steps in to put out the band’s first release.

Activity and performances

Pist form in December 2013 and quickly begin playing live across the UK. They also work on a split release with BongCauldron and plan a UK tour with BongCauldron, Gurt and BongCauldron in April 2015.
