Phoria
Phoria is a Brighton-based group active from 2010. The band comprises Tim Douglas, Seryn Burden, James Cheeseman, Jeb Hardwick, Trewin Howard and Ed Sanderson. Its music is associated with ambient and neoclassicism, and it also fits within shoegaze, post-rock and pop contexts.
Band formation and line-up
The group begins as a five-piece band from Brighton, England, with Trewin Howard on vocals, Jeb Hardwick on guitar and visuals, Ed Sanderson on keyboard and vocals, Tim Douglas on bass and synth, and Seryn Burden on drums. The listed members also include James Cheeseman.
Releases
Phoria releases its debut EP, Yourself Still, in August 2010 as a pay-what-you-want download. In 2013, the EP Bloodworks is released physically and through iTunes. That release comes through the London label Akira Records.
Reception and later material
The single “Red” gains attention with its accompanying video, attracting over 100,000 plays on the band’s SoundCloud account in a few days and bringing the group to a wider international audience. Bloodworks shows a development in the band’s sound, with electronica and modern pop elements becoming more prominent. Another single, “Emanate”, receives 250,000 plays across YouTube and SoundCloud in its first two weeks. The EP Display is also part of the band’s recorded output.
