Phil Vassar is an American country music artist and songwriter, born in 1964 in the United States. He is known for placing the piano at the centre of his recordings and performances.
Songwriting
Before signing with Arista Records in 2000, Vassar is already established as a songwriter on country radio. He writes number-one hits for Jo Dee Messina, including “Bye, Bye” and “I’m Alright,” for Alan Jackson with “Right on the Money,” and for Tim McGraw with “My Next Thirty Years” and “For a Little While.” He also writes “Little Red Rodeo” for Collin Raye and “Postmarked Birmingham” for Blackhawk.
Career and performance work
Vassar co-owns a piano bar outside Nashville, Tennessee, and performs his own material there before securing a record deal. His work is associated with country music and modern country, and his recording style is shaped by his piano-led approach.
