Peter Borg

Peter Borg is an Austrian schlager singer from Wien, Austria, born in 1960. He is also associated with dance music and club culture, with a background shaped by soul, Motown and disco.

Early musical influences

He develops an interest in music from an early age after getting his first radio at the age of five. He listens to stations including Radio Caroline and Radio Luxembourg, and later responds to the pirate radio sound coming from London. That influence helps define his musical direction. He also visits a nightclub owned by his father when he is eight, where a resident DJ playing new records sparks his interest in DJing.

Radio, mixes and club work

While still at school, he chooses work experience at Choice FM, which introduces him to radio presenting and a wider range of music. He begins recording radio shows, editing out presenters’ voices, and making mixtapes for his Walkman and friends. This leads to his first regular DJ residency at a pub in South London, which continues for two years every Saturday and helps him develop long set performances. He later becomes resident for the Surrey Mansion parties, where he plays eight-hour sets to large crowds, and also takes regular slots in London venues including Mayfair club, Rouge, The Saint and Café de Paris.

Promotions and broadcasting

After organising his own birthday party, he recognises an ability for putting events together and launches the Simply Salacious brand in 2004. The parties under that name include events at Ministry of Sound and Plan B. He also produces podcasts that reach listeners around the world and uses them as the basis for his An Audience with Peter Borg nights, where he plays music that has influenced him. He presents The Simply Salacious Dance Party every Tuesday on mi-soul.com.

Later activity

He continues to work as a DJ and plans studio work for his own productions, alongside a residency at Market House Brixton and other bookings.
