Paul White is a London-based UK hip-hop producer whose work sits across hip hop, electronic music, beats and experimental instrumental music. He works from a South London studio and is known for production with a psychedelic character.

Career

White begins with a series of beat tapes that circulate among small groups of listeners. He then releases a number of sought-after 7-inch records and a set of remixes, which help establish his reputation within underground music circles. His production receives support from DJs and broadcasters including Ashley Beedle, Danny Breaks, Gaslamp Killer, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and Gilles Peterson.

He also works as a library producer and has credits with BBC and Channel 4.

Style and reception

White’s music combines elements of hip hop with prog rock, electronica and bass-heavy hybrids, while retaining a clear hip-hop feel. FACT magazine identifies him as a notable figure in the revival of instrumental hip-hop, and Dazed & Confused describes him as representing a new generation of producers.
