Patrick Sweany

Patrick Sweany is an American singer, guitarist and blues artist from Massillon, Ohio. Born in 1974, he begins as an acoustic blues performer before moving into electric playing in 1991 and developing a sound rooted in blues, blues rock, americana, southern rock and roots rock. He turns professional in the late 1990s and first becomes known on the regional blues-festival circuit in Ohio.

Career

Sweany debuts in 1999 with I Wanna Tell You on Ayao Records. He continues to work the blues circuit and releases henryfordbedroom in 2003, also on Ayao. His early electric band includes Dan Auerbach, who later becomes known as the leader of the Black Keys.

In 2006, Sweany signs to Nine Mile Records and releases C'mon C'mere that year. The album is produced by Dan Auerbach, who also produces Every Hour Is a Dollar Gone in 2008. Sweany relocates to Nashville in 2009 and releases That Old Southern Drag in 2011.

Later work

He continues with Close to the Floor in 2013, Daytime Turned to Nighttime in 2015 and Ancient Noise in 2018. Ancient Noise is recorded at Sam Phillips Recording. Over time, his music shifts from acoustic blues toward funkier blues-rock and more experimental, spacious arrangements. His recordings and streaming presence help build a steady following. The Patrick Sweany Band is associated with his work.
