:Papercutz

:Papercutz is an electronic pop project started by Bruno Miguel, with various guest musicians contributing to the recordings and performances. The project works with a mix of acoustic and electronic elements, combining live instrumentation, organic electronics, dreamlike melodies, pop vocals and cinematic piano textures.

Releases and recording

After appearing on several international compilations, :Papercutz signs its debut album Lylac to Montreal label Apegenine Recordings. The album extends the project’s song-based pop approach and receives positive attention from the press and music community. The special edition single Ultravioleta rmx's includes the album track Ultravioleta alongside remixes by The Sight Below, Neotropic, Spandex and Signer.

The project later signs a remix album to UK label Audiobulb Records. That release includes an original track and remixes built from the textures of Lylac, with contributions from Taylor Deupree, Keith Kenniff and Simon Scott, among others. Bruno Miguel also records a second album in New York with producer Chris Coady.

Live activity and reception

:Papercutz tours its first live shows over two years, promoting Lylac with performances in the UK, the US and Portugal, and appearances at festivals including SXSW and Exit. The project is featured by BBC Introducing and appears among MySpace’s best music selections. Press coverage includes Textura, Cuemix-magazine, Tokafi, Cylic Defrost, Subba-cultcha and Organ Mag, while The Silent Ballet describes Lylac as a strong beginning and Record Collector compares Bruno Miguel’s precision to Four Tet.

Collaborators and labels

Bruno Miguel works with artists from labels and scenes including Ghostly International, Ninja Tune, Mush, Sleep Debt, Hand on the Plow and Carpark Records through the remix project. The labels associated with :Papercutz’s releases include Apegenine Recordings and Audiobulb Records.
