Panda Su

Panda Su is a Scottish singer-songwriter of half Portuguese heritage, born in the rural Highlands of Scotland and raised in the forests of Fife. She makes acoustic, female-led music with an intimate, melodic style.

Releases and recognition

She comes to wider attention with the Sticks and Bricks EP, released in 2009, which receives critical acclaim. In 2010 she is awarded Best Scottish Newcomer in the Jockrock Poll. Her song Eric is Dead is the only track by a Scottish artist on the French release Fete de la Musique and is also featured in the season four finale of Skins.

Her follow-up EP, I Begin, is released to further critical notice. Its title track is named Single of the Month by The List in May 2011, and the EP is described by Audioscribbler as one of the year’s most engaging records. In the United States, Best New Bands praises the EP’s repeated-listening appeal and compares its sound to Sufjan Stevens’ earlier albums.

Media and later activity

Following this response, STV films a documentary about her music in July 2011, which is broadcast later in the year. In 2012 she films a video for Alphabet Song from I Begin to coincide with its use in the film House At The End Of The Street. She then steps away from live performance in late 2012 to focus on writing new material for a debut album.
