P-A-U-L
P-A-U-L is a blues rock group associated with a funky edge, built around deep grooves, sharp guitar riffs and soulful melodies. The project is led by Paul Andrew Ulysses Lamb, who is born in Detroit and raised in Harper Woods on the city’s east side. As a child, he receives a Jimi Hendrix album from his father, an experience that shapes his interest in music. He also draws on artists such as Hendrix, Johnny Winter and Johnny Cash.
Early development and touring
After high school, Lamb travels to Hollywood, where he becomes involved in the local scene and learns from West Coast rock musicians. He develops self-taught guitar skills and a rock voice with a soulful tone, then begins touring widely. The act has been performing for nearly fifteen years and is described as having toured continuously.
Other projects and collaborations
In the mid-1990s, P-A-U-L becomes the frontman of The Glory Revival, an eight-piece band from Phoenix, Arizona. He writes and produces all of the group’s material, and the band signs a deal and records two albums in Detroit. While in Detroit, he plays with local acts including the Ethan Daniel Davidson 5 and Darren McCarty’s Grinder. As a regular session musician at Rustbelt Studios, he works with Shannon Curfman and Lennon Murphy, and later records and tours with them in 2006.
Solo work
P-A-U-L’s debut album, Hangin’ On For Dear Life, is part of his catalogue. His songs are shaped by life on the road and draw on hard experience, whiskey, and personal relationships.
