OX
OX is a rock band from Brighton, UK. The group is also associated with Canadian indie and alt-country music, with Mark Browning as the frontman. It appears in a number of different contexts under the same name, including hip-hop, doom and drone, but the Brighton rock band is the act identified here.
Music and releases
The Canadian OX releases include Dust Bowl Revival, which reaches number one on the Earshot National College Radio Chart in 2003, and American Lo Fi, which reaches number six on the same chart in 2006. That version of the band tours regularly in Canada and the UK. Another OX project is a drone side project led by Ken Baluke of Sons of Otis, playing a very slow, heavy style compared with Earth’s Earth 2 and the early Sunn O))) demos and albums.
Other acts with the same name
The name OX is also used by a Polish band formed in Torun in 1999, whose music draws on Korn, Prodigy, Massive Attack and Incubus and uses Christian lyrics. The name also belongs to a hardcore band active from 1993 to 1994, which releases three EPs, a split LP with the Dealers, and a track on the First Last compilation 7-inch; members later form Ding. Other artists called Ox include a rapper from Queensbridge, a progressive rock band from Israel, an electronic pop band from Gothenburg, and a Serbian producer and rapper known for ghost writing and ghost producing.
