Our Fold

Our Fold is an indie rock group from Westhoughton, formed in spring 2005. The band begins as a four-piece built around guitarist Al, drummer Ryan, vocalist and guitarist Damien, and bassist Dan, who moves from guitar to bass to complete the line-up.

Origins and formation

The group comes together through a shared love of music and a response to the limited local scene in Westhoughton. Its early songs develop from social meetings and periods of playing together before the band takes a more formal shape in 2005. The first live performances take place in July 2005, when the band makes its stage debut with two shows on the same day.

Live activity and reputation

Our Fold builds a small but committed following early on, with supporters travelling from venue to venue to see the band. It plays across the country in established venues in major British cities and performs with acts including Art Brut, The Noisettes, Boy Kill Boy, The Paddingtons, Foals, Bromheads Jacket and The Fratellis. The band also develops a strong local reputation, with critics describing it as a local genius act and one of the hardest-working bands in the area.

Recordings and recognition

The band’s recorded material attracts interest within the music industry, alongside its live performances, and its growing back catalogue adds to that attention. Our Fold also achieves notice through the NME.com unsigned chart, where it reaches the top position. Its local shows are known for intense audience response and an atmosphere of high energy.
