Orville Peck is a country musician based in Canada. He is known for wearing a fringed mask and for not showing his face publicly.
Background
Peck is born in Johannesburg and lives there for much of his early life. He is born in 1988. As a child, he receives no formal music training and teaches himself by playing acoustic guitar and an old Casio keyboard. He is the son of a sound engineer, and he also does voice-over work for cartoons and other media as a child.
He trains in ballet for 12 years and performs in musical theatre while growing up. By his early 20s, he has appeared on national tours of musicals. In his mid-20s, he moves to London to study acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and later appears in a West End play.
Recording career
Peck releases his debut album Pony in 2019. The following year, he issues the EP Show Pony. His second album, Bronco, is released in 2022. After a mental health break, he releases his third album, Stampede, a duets record issued via Warner Records and described by Peck as a standalone concept album.
Name and image
Orville Peck is a pseudonym. Peck says he keeps the reasons for his mask private because he prefers listeners to draw their own conclusions rather than have the idea fixed in place.
