Only Men Aloud

Only Men Aloud is a Welsh men’s choir from Cardiff, Wales, active since 2000. The group is led by Tim Rhys-Evans, who forms the choir and serves as conductor; he is a classically trained singer and formerly musical director of Welsh National Youth Opera. The choir includes Huw Llywelyn among its members.

Career

The choir comes to wider UK attention in 2008 after winning the BBC television competition Last Choir Standing. Following that success, it signs a five-record deal with Universal Music and releases its first album. In 2008 it performs with Josh Groban at The Royal Variety Performance.

Only Men Aloud undertakes its first UK tour in April and May 2009, with Amy Nuttall appearing as a special guest. At the Cardiff International Arena, the group also gives a one-off performance with Bonnie Tyler.

Albums

In October 2009, the choir’s second album, Band of Brothers, reaches number one in the UK Classical Charts and remains there for three weeks.

Line-up

The choir is based in Cardiff and is described as having 18 members. Its listed voice parts include tenors, baritones and basses, with Jeffrey Howard as accompanist.
