Oisin

Oisin is a group from Argentina active between 1999 and 2007 and described as an Argentinian nu metal band. It is a quintet associated with nu metal, and its sound combines distorted guitars with two female vocalists, Karen and Gisela Garcia Bodenheimer, creating a contrast with a more pop-leaning element in the group’s approach.

Formation and early activity

The group forms around classmates who begin playing together through a music workshop. In 2000, one member, then 18 years old, records a demo and sends it to labels. The band is later selected as a promising act for 2002.

Recordings and releases

Oisin releases its debut album, Something to get me out of evil, in 2003 on the label associated with former Soda Stereo musician Zeta Bosio. The band is also noted for having its voices provided by the two women in the lineup, which helps define its distinctive balance of heavy and melodic elements.

Performances and recognition

The group is praised and invited to perform with Machu Catupecu. It also appears at San Pedro Rock and Quilmes Rock in 2003.

Other meaning of the name

The name Oisin is also used by an unrelated 1970s Irish folk group led by Geraldine MacGowan, later joined by Anne Conroy, but the Argentine group is the act identified here as a nu metal band.
