Octo Octa

Octo Octa is the recording name of Maya Bouldry-Morrison, a Chicago-born electronic and house producer. She is also associated with the project Alchemical Sisters. Before her debut EP, she spends years working as a fringe IDM artist and sound designer.

Recording career

Her debut EP, Let Me See You, appears on 100% Silk in 2011 and helps bring her to wider attention among house music listeners. Her later releases include Where Did You Go/Through The Haze, a deep house 12-inch for Chicago label Argot, run by Steve Mizek, and More Times, an EP for the German label Running Back. Her work is described as combining detailed composition, carefully built sound design, and direct dancefloor function.

Recognition and collaborations

Octo Octa receives a Red Bull Music Academy residency in Manhattan, where she works with Harald Bjork and Throwing Snow. She also tours internationally and plays venues and events including Panorama Bar in Berlin, Live At Robert Johnson in Frankfurt, and Barcelona’s Sonar Festival. Her track “Cause I Love You” is named by SPIN Magazine as one of the 50 Best Dance Songs of 2014.
