Obstacles
Obstacles is a Danish instrumental rock group that plays complex rock music with guitar, bass and drums. The band presents a sound that draws on math rock, post-rock and progressive elements, combining intricate rhythmic changes with strong melodies and a direct, high-energy approach.
Releases
In 2010, Obstacles releases its debut album, Dividual. The record is written, toured and recorded over more than a year, and it is recorded, produced and mixed by Jacob Reichert Nielsen, with mastering by Alan Douches. The album focuses on controlled, tightly structured instrumental rock with ambitious song-writing and large melodic themes.
After Dividual, the band turns toward a looser writing process for Oscillate. The release is created through a more spontaneous approach and records four tracks in the group’s studio with Sune Kaarsberg. The result keeps the band’s precision but introduces more free-form movement, while also drawing on prog-rock and jazz-fusion influences.
Line-up
After Oscillate, Niels-Peder leaves the band and Obstacles continues as a trio. The line-up is Thomas Feltheim on guitar, Morten Clausen on drums and Jeppe Street Jarlstrøm on bass.
Live activity
Obstacles is described as a live-focused band and tours across Europe and Russia. Its performances are marked by tight playing and intensity, with the group established as a power trio after the line-up change.
