Nu:Tone

Nu:Tone is the production alias of Dan Gresham, a drum and bass producer from the United Kingdom. He is associated with liquid funk and drum and bass, and he also works under the name Nu:Logic.

Early life and training

Gresham starts piano lessons at the age of eight and joins the choir at Jesus College, Cambridge, a year later. He studies music at Durham University. While there, he secures a college radio show and meets John B, with whom he shares broadcasts. The two also establish the local club night Substance, and Gresham later engineers studio sessions for John B.

Career

His first vinyl release appears in 2001 on John B’s Beta imprint, with the tracks “Grand Central” and “The Boss”. He signs to Hospital Records in 2003 and becomes one of the label’s better-known producers in drum and bass. His music is played by artists including LTJ Bukem and Dillinja.

Nu:Tone’s remix work includes “Spreadlove” and “Strictly Social Re-rub”. His debut album, Brave Nu World, is released in 2005 and receives support from leading drum and bass DJs. He also appears in eclectic DJ sets by Norman Jay M.B.E. and Tom Middleton.

Collaborations and later work

He tours widely as a DJ, performing in the USA, Asia and Australia. He also remixes Alice Russell and Quantic, and produces a track for Jenna G. His album Back of Beyond is released in 2007.
