N.R.G. is the alias of UK hardcore techno artist Neil Gavin Rumney. Under this name he works in early breakbeat hardcore, techno and acid, and his first releases appear on Chill Records in 1991 during the rise of the rave scene. He goes on to issue tracks including “I Need Your Lovin” and “He Never Lost His Hardcore”.

Aliases and related projects

Rumney also records as Liquid Crystal, with “The Chromatic EP” and “The Chromatic EP II” arriving in 1993. These 12-inch releases are among the most sought-after hardcore EPs. In the mid-1990s he also uses the names Trotters Independent Traders and Summer Junkies, drawing on house music and moving into more experimental styles. The Trotters material later influences producers working in similar styles and feeds into the bassline scene in the UK.

Other act with the same name

The name N.R.G. is also used by an 1980s hard rock band. That group appears on the original motion picture soundtrack for Transformers: The Movie and later releases one full-length album, NRG2 Transformed, which includes a remastered version of “Instruments of Destruction” and previously unreleased mid-1980s recordings.
